Our delicious cake menu changes weekly in store to allow our returning customers the chance to taste something different every time they visit. Not only can you try our cakes by the slice, but we also offer whole cakes in a variety of flavours, which have to be pre-ordered with at least 5 days notice. Each cake is a standard round 8 inches and includes in the price a personalised message if required. Choose from traditional Victoria sponge, Coffee & Walnut, Carrot Cake, Chocolate Ganache Cake with or without fresh berries or Lemon curd cake. Please note, we can adapt the size to either smaller or bigger if needed. Our entire menu is designed and handcrafted in our kitchen, from scratch every morning by ‘The Independent Baker’ better known as Tash, and she works very hard to keep our customers guessing by bringing a different menu every week. As the list of sumptuous treats is forever expanding, we can’t list everything we bake, so we hope that you will be intrigued and want to visit in person.

We offer a wide selection of flavours when it comes to baking cupcakes. They are the perfect gift for birthdays or any other celebration. Whilst our full cupcake menu is not always available every day in store, we do offer customers the option to pre-order any of the flavours. We not only LOVE to bake brownies & blondies, we also LOVE to eat them too. Rich, decadent & fudgey our homemade brownies are one of our bestsellers. Changing flavours every week, we try to bring something new for everyone by constantly creating new and exciting flavour combinations. Caramel Cornflake, Raspberry & White Chocolate, Salted Caramel, Biscoff, Peanut Butter & Jam, Nutella, Chocolate Orange Ganache and Snickers to just name a few. For those who prefer something a little less rich & chocolatey but still packed with flavour, then our Blondies are for you… Lemon, Raspberry & White Chocolate, Custard Cream, Nutella, Blueberry & Lemon, Biscoff, Jammy Dodger or Pecan & Butterscotch Give them a try…you won’t be disappointed!

Traditional Raspberry Jam – Soft, sugary and generously filled these are our number one seller, we call them “pillows of joy” and they certainly are. Available fresh every day in store, however, we recommend visiting early in the day as these sell out quickly. Visit on Fridays & Saturdays to see more of our flavoured doughnuts on offer. We regularly change flavours but here is a list of some popular ones – Vanilla Custard, Apple & Cinnamon, Biscoff, Mint Chocolate Ganache, Salted Caramel & Honeycomb.

Takeaway afternoon tea is available all year round and changes every month with what is included as we like to use local, fresh & seasonal produce where possible.

We kindly ask for at least 3 days notice as all our items are baked from scratch.

We don’t like the little people in our lives to miss out on a treat, so our ‘Little Ones Afternoon Tea’ is also available to pre-order.

Our lovely little shop is situated in the heart of Hythe, surrounded by beautiful scenery such as the military canal which runs through the town and of course the incredible picturesque seafront.

Enjoy a takeaway afternoon tea with friends or family sat up at the beach or along the Royal Military Canal, or simply collect a box to enjoy in the comfort of your home.

Cream tea and savoury tea boxes are available too.

A chance to taste a variety of our products, but also a lovely alternative to a birthday cake, as we believe there’s something inside that the whole family will enjoy. The perfect way to say Happy Birthday, Thinking of you, Well Done or just simply Thank-You. Not got a sweet tooth? Don’t worry, we have savoury boxes too! Sweet – made up of 7-8 sweet treats from our cake counter, including a mini cream tea. Savoury – a mixture of freshly baked savoury delights such as cheese straws, quiches, sausage rolls and mini cheese scones with chutney & butter. As much as we love sweet things, we love savoury things too! When visiting us you will be sure to see our most popular savoury products, freshly baked quiches, sausage rolls and cheese scones on the counter unless of course we’ve sold out! We do recommend getting here early to enjoy the whole array of non-cake delights. At The Independent Baker, we enjoy experimenting with new flavours for our savoury menu because the options really are endless, which is why we like to change things up every day. We absolutely love the leek & welsh rarebit quiches, pork & Bramley apple sausage rolls and cheese straws, you really don’t want to miss out!

We bake many sweet treats throughout the week, some of our bestsellers include Viennese whirls, Kentish gypsy tart & the classic bread pudding. Our cookie range is also expanding as we have recently developed new flavours, which means that some cookies are actually stuffed with delicious fillings which ooze out of the cookies when they come out the oven. New trendy flavours such as biscoff, Nutella and salted caramel are some favourites. Looking for a dessert? Perhaps we could interest you in one of our tarts, pavlovas or brownie mousses.
